How usage and credits work

Oldwise measures your real usage, not a flat number of queries. A single word costs far less than a full page, so you are only ever charged for what you actually use.

Credits

Every answer costs credits equal to its real token cost. One credit is a tiny fraction of a euro. A short lookup is roughly one or two credits; a long, detailed breakdown costs more.

How a credit is calculated

Each request has an input (your selected text plus our prompt) and an output (the answer). We use the AI model's published per-token price:

cost = input_tokens × input_price + output_tokens × output_price

That euro cost is converted to credits and rounded up to the next whole credit. We never charge more than the real cost of your request.

Two limits

Weekly carryover (so a quiet week is not wasted)

Credits you do not use in a week carry over to the next week:

Carryover builds up to 4 weeks' worth and resets at the start of each billing month. Because carryover only recycles credits you already had, it never increases what you pay.

Example. Your weekly limit is 2800 credits and you use 1400, leaving 1400 unused. On Bro, half of that (700) carries over, so next week you have 2800 + 700 = 3500 credits.
